Admission to our school...
Children prosper in school where there is a mutually supportive relationship between home and school. Your child’s pre-school needs can be greatly helped by attending playgroups or nursery education. We have close links with local playgroups and nurseries. The Reception teachers have responsibility for the induction of children into our school. We aim to provide children with two induction sessions and we also hold an open evening for new parents where more information on the finer points of starting school are shared e.g. uniform, reading, homework and the role of the school nurse.
We aim to make the introduction to school as smooth and as happy a process as possible for each child. Currently, new entrants are admitted to school in the year in which they are five. In the half term before starting school, new entrants will be invited to spend some time in school. Our Reception teachers visit all feeder playgroups and nurseries in the local area and arrange an early meeting with parents and children, where parents have the opportunity to talk to the teachers about their child. This is followed by two one-hour visits to school for the child. These visits help children to get to know their class teachers and classroom, as well as enabling them to become familiar with the school environment. This ensures a smooth entry into school.
Admission Dates:
Autumn born children (1 September - 31 December) are admitted full time from September, following a two week induction period of mornings only.
Spring born children (1 January – 31 March) are admitted full time from September, following a two week induction period of mornings only.
Summer born children (1 April – 31 August) are admitted part time from September, afternoons only for the first two weeks, then mornings only for the remainder of Term 1 (staying for lunch). In Term 2 children will be admitted full time, if teachers and parents feel that the children are ready. A decision will be made by the middle of October as to the child’s readiness to manage a full day in school. Parents, in consultation with the school, have the right to ask for part-time education for all of Terms 1 & 2 for summer born children.
